The Burglar Who Forgot His Pants
A couple of years ago, a New Hampshire couple discovered a man who was naked from the waist down in their home. Obviously drunk and wearing nothing but a t-shirt the man actually tried to fight Derek McNutt who was intent on protecting his girlfriend, Lindsay Bolton, and their two young children who’d just been put to bed for the night. During the melee, the pants-free burglar chased the homeowners with a bat and threw a pair of vice grips at them. The residents reported that he was grabbing “anything he could get his hands on“. And at one point, Mr. McNutt had to use his child’s high chair to defend himself and eventually even throw at the suspect.
Desperate to get this guy out of the house, the couple ran downstairs to retrieve a bat out of their vehicle only to accidentally lock themselves out of the home while their 3-year old and 5-month old were still inside sleeping! After somehow managing to get back inside the home and throw more items at the half-naked burglar, the suspect finally fled the scene after taking a pair of the homeowner’s pants with them. Joshua O’Shea was arrested almost immediately after this incident, but your guess is as good as mine as to what possessed a pantless man to really think he could win in a fight against a man protecting his woman, his children and his household. True burglary stories like this one are definitely not the norm, but there are enough of them to note that you should always expect the unexpected when it comes to building good home security.
